Hi Jim,

Yes, you have asked about these before.
We discussed these on the
email list months ago.

Ah. Good point.

I was not aware of FDTUI being buggy,
so maybe it is indeed good to drop it.

- move BOOTFIX to BOOT

The package description is "Bootfix is a boot sector repair tool" so
I'm okay moving this to "BOOT"

Good. It also makes SYSLINUX less lonely :-)

- add METAKERN to BOOT

Just an idea. No need to add if too much hassle.

- rename SYSLNX to SYSLINUX

This is the Syslinux bootloader collection...

As far as I remember, FreeDOS itself used it
and the bootable RAMDISK of it to boot CD.

- move CDROM2UI to SOUND

You can compile it in 2 styles. The full version
has: eject, close, lock, unlock, reset, pause,
info, cont(inue) and play commands and is 2.3 kB.
There is a 1 kilobyte non-audio variant. Note that
audio only works with the usual audio cable from
CD/DVD drive to soundcard or mainboard and proper
soundcard or mainboard volume control settings.
Some CD drives may also have front audio jacks.

- add DPMIONE to TOOLS (CWSDPMI already is there)

... Are you suggesting adding this package?

It would be a more powerful CWSDPMI alternative, yes.

- move EDIT to Install (size as NET and more useful)

- move DISK to Install (total size is only 4.3 MB)

We discussed "EDIT" and "DISK" months ago and I still think these are
better suited for the BonusCD...

Useful in DISK: Alternatives for FDISK, the small
FINDDISK and WHICHFAT tools, DOSFSCK which can
"chkdsk" FAT32 drives but needs plenty of RAM and
TESTDISK which helps recover lost/formatted data.

Regarding EDIT: Well, tastes of text editor users
differ, so it is good to have a good choice. Quite
a few editors are small and / or ports from Linux,
nice for the people who already are fans of those.
I agree that this category is very "mixed" though.

Move the following to TOOLS, or all of UTIL to Install:
[..]

We discussed these months ago, I don't know why we would move them
around now when we are about to go forward with RC2 and then FreeDOS
1.4.

I already thought that it is a bit late to suggest
too many TOOLS-UTIL migrations at this moment. We
could re-open the topic at a later time. However,
UTIL is not that big, so we could just keep the
whole category on Install instead of Bonus :-)

Regards, Eric
