Here in the US? Quite an expensive proposition if they are going to do
that to everyone in the world who is running a Freenet node.

I will ignore the fact that you question my integrity given that I have
spent the better part of the last two years working on a project designed
to help people like you. Don't do it again.

In a country where running a Freenet node results in death, my advice is
not to run a Freenet node, and always has been. In fact, they shouldn't
be running one anyway if they feel they are in serious danger until we
reach 1.0. If people insist on talking to Freenet then they should run a
client and connect to a remote node which they trust (this is largely
similar to what Brandon suggests, but without creating a
mini-worse-than-gnutella), but even this isn't perfect. Freenet aims to
make it impossible to determine who produced and who comsumed specific
pieces of information. It does not aim to make it impossible for people
to discover that you are running a Freenet node (although it may make it
difficult). Read the "Introduction to Freenet" section on the homepage if
you don't believe me.

Again, it is important to be clear about what Freenet can and can't
do. Freenet can protect the anonymity of producers and consumers of
information, NOT of people running Freenet nodes.

Without scalability Freenet is useless. If you want to create an
undetectable communication medium then you are welcome to, hell, maybe
I will do it, but that is NOT what Freenet aims or claims to be, and if
you start claiming that it is, or claiming that it should be, then it is
YOU who are doing the damage.

Ian.
