In the start script put  -t 10  right before the "$@" leave a space
between them.

I have had trouble with Zope when I started it from an xterm.  Do a
CTRL-ALT-F1 to get a regualr terminal session then start Zope with
./start&  so it will dettach from the terminal. 

Once Zope starts up,  run top to check to CPU and Memory usage.  
BTW: top will report the same amount of memory for each of the Python
threads but one or more will show CPU usage.

If Zope seems to start okay and the CPU usage drops to zero,
CTRL-ALT-F7 to get back into X
Now startup your browser.
