Corey, I'm not 100% sure how to do this but a starting point is to use mris_info on the surface file you are getting coordinates from, like:
mris_info rh.inflated and get the surfaceRAS to talaraiched surfaceRAS matrix, and use that in matlab to do your conversions. Of course I'd check a few of them against what you see in tksurfer.
