We just posted a fix for tkmedit which can be found here:

ftp://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/pub/dist/freesurfer/fixed

Copy the file 'tkmedit.bin' to your $FREESURFER_HOME/bin dir.

Actually, it fixes a different problem: where tkmedit crashes when
scrolling and middle-mouse button clicking at the same time while in the
view window.  But the glut lib was replaced, which may fix the problems
you are seeing.
