If I could, I would!! But there is no one here on a regular basis that knows Linux! Thank you for trying to help. I was just reading the instructions for the installations, and I typed this command in:
tar tzf freesurfer-Linux-<platform>-<release>-full.tar.gz and that worked absolutely fine, it showed the contents of the tar.gz file which is said it would do and then it said: "The tar.gz file will extract to a directory called 'freesurfer'. Installing into the directory /usr/local is recommended" but how would it extract to the directory called 'freesurfer'? I honestly have no idea how to run this program!
