xhemireg seems to create e.g. left symmetric surface of the right normal one. Once xhemi/surf/lh.pial has been created and surface data surf/rh.overlay.mgh copied into xhemi/surf/lh.overlay.mgh, why don't register surf/lh.overlay.mgh and xhemi/surf/lh.overlay onto fsaverage lh.pial surface ?
