Hi all,

I did get a 44.x.x.x IP address back in the 80 or 90s for Packet Radio

under the callsign VK2ZGU. This callsign then lapsed. and I regained

my original callsign VK2ZIW in 2007.

I tried to "move" my IP address to my new callsign. Got nowhere.

=========== Fixed IPv4 address ======

I'm very happy with my ISP assigned Fixed IPv4 address.

I run a webserver and email server here.

I've been doing this ever since ADSL came into being.

First with Direct IP over ATM, where the DSLAM pointed the ATM data

to my ISP's router.

(This required four IP addresses and was thus phased out)

Then with PPP where the login credentials direct the data to a specific ISP.

Now with the NBN (FTTC) I've had to find an ISP with "Fixed IP" in their

Home/Residential plans.

Prompt> host www.unixservice.com.au 8.8.8.8
Using domain server:
Name: 8.8.8.8
Address: 8.8.8.8#53
Aliases:

www.unixservice.com.au is an alias for naomi.unixservice.com.au.
naomi.unixservice.com.au has address 220.233.63.195

With "our" 44 block, I have not used "my" IP address for well over

twenty years but still I support a "range" for hobby use, or other

networks, "not on the traditional internet".
