I did an mplayer wrapper script that copied the front channels to the
rear channels an added center and subwoofer. It also added some ladspa
plugins for compressing the audio.

The command line for estereo that I used is this:

mplayer -channels 6 -af 
ladspa=dyson_compress_1403:dysonCompress:-16:0.5:0.5:0.5,ladspa=fast_lookahead_limiter_1913:fastLookaheadLimiter:0:-16:0.8,ladspa=amp_1181:amp:8,channels=4:4:0:0:0:1:0:2:0:3,center=4,sub=200:5
