If it is, it is a bug. I have not forgotten what mixer.py does, it is just a volume control and no real mixer. I had the problem that software mixing what you want has no effect until I have an ac3 encoder in alsa. Nobody wrote that your plugin has to do that, nor does anyone think you will implement it. But many great idea come from thinking one idea a bit further.
