It is unfortunate that you feel nobody is listening to you.  Indeed it
is the _common_ case that threads evolve (and frequently devolve) as
features or designs are discussed, and it often does require a lead who
is capable of keeping the discussion on track when it needs to be.  As
an alternative, where the thread diverges into some weird or unexpected
direction, those posts can merely be ignored.

I am certainly guilty of what you accuse.  When I have 20 minutes before
work to read a few lists, I tend to skim, and sometimes I misinterpret
the point.
