Python 2.4.4 is the default on Debian 4.0, though 2.5 is available.

My only excuse for using debian 4.0, though, is that the machine has  
been running for a very long time. Since before ubuntu was a realistic  
alternative (for me). Since early 2004 iirc. It's a machine i use  
extensively, and having it out of comission for a day or two so i can  
load a fancy new OS is a hardship. I don't only use it for freevo.

I actually still had python 2.3 installed alongside 2.4 for some  
reason. I've still got stuff on there that i migrated from a previous  
machine - the oldest file in my home directory is dated june 23 1999.

I've only just installed 2.5, 2.4 seems to still be the default. I'm  
not sure what the migration entails, though I'm sure i could figure it  
out.
