I suspect you'll be fine, but you'll want to double check that the sound
chipset is supported and your HDMI output is one of the supported MCP
versions (currently 67, 73, 78, or 7A).  (I suppose you consult google
to find out.)

Yes, 2, 6, and 8 channel PCM output all work.  As does AC3 and DTS
passthrough -- but the beauty of HDMI is that we no longer need to
concern ourselves with passing through audio bitstreams.  Let the player
do the decoding and pass your AVR the audio in PCM.
