I sent in a rather large patch for better layout and easier maintenance last week. Unfortunately it's not added to the svn yet. I have also some more ideas about the handbook (probably moving to SGML/Docbook) and splitting the chapters. But my diploma-thesis is more important at the moment ;) On the other hand it was a nice fingerwork editing the handbook and getting known to LaTeX again.
