Well actually MoinMoin made an effort to export to DocBook possible, but
that attempt seems unfinished as yet. There might be more wikis with
this functionality, but I haven 't explored that yet.

Is it strictly necessary to export to a single handbook? Perhaps you can
just publish the handbook in HTML (probably not though), or have some
script generate the wikipages for the manual and then convert the HTML
output to another more portable format, or something like that. These
are just some ideas as I have no clue as to what the wishes are
concerning the format of documentation. What is the goal of the manual?
What is it's target audience and how should it be published, and why?

Hmm, concept. Okay then, maybe now is a time to spend some words on the
concept and make a list of what features do make sense. A quick braindump:

- Easy administration
- Anti-Spam features built-in or pluggable
- Mail / RSS Notification of changes
- Page History
- Decent and easy markup language
- A tried and trusted, not overly complex system
- DocBook export ?

This is roughly my current guideline. I am no wiki guru, although I
certainly do have experience in documenting technical projects.Anyone
who thinks this is wrong or needs adjusting please say so. I'm currently
still installing and fooling around with some wikis to get a feel for
them (namely Trac, MoinMoin, DocuWiki, MediaWiki). I have no preference
for any wiki just yet. Trac is one of the options, if it fits the
requirements. The fact that it is currently already being used surely
speaks for it. All options are open. Perhaps it is a good idea to look
at some big public wiki sites and see how they do things and learn from
that. Ubuntu and OpenWRT for example, ofcourse there are plenty more
examples.

The following information may not be interresting or relevant to
developpers on this list that won't be (at least innitially) involved
with the implementation of the wiki, but I'll mention it anyway for
those that would llike to do some reading on the subject. If this
information is not suitable for this mailing, please let me know and I
try to limit my future output to the bare necessities..

For now I will try and use my limited spare time to try and see which
wiki fits best. If anybody has any remarks I will say, as the Ferengi
do: I am all ears ;-)
