The reviews for the Nexus-S I've scanned were generally underwhelmed. It's
a nice phone, but not much of an advance on the Nexus-One, which should get
the Gingerbread release of Android before Christmas. And no support for
the HSPA+ digital service on T-Mobile, so you probably will need wifi to
make a video call with it. The camera was singled out as a disappointment,
too.

A month ago I was encouraging Irene to go for a Verizon phone to replace her
iPhone and MiFi with a single package and bill, but now I'm thinking wait
until Verizon has the LTE capable phones next year.

So lots of nice phones for Christmas, but all oddly out of sync with the
developing network capabilities.

I'm two releases -- oh, wait, now three releases -- out of date in checking
whether Android can do the kind of audio synthesis I want to do, the API was
plagued with latencies that made user initiated sound ridiculous.

AT&T did score last, which is easy to remember, but the other national
carriers were not stellar standouts in the ratings either.
