Well, the main reason for doing this is bug hunting. 0.5 will
definitely have 2.16 (the stable release). Bumping to 2.15 and getting
bugs ironed out *now* will ensure that 0.5 will have a stable Gnome,
which is much better than a buggy Gnome like we had in 0.4. If it's ok
with everyone I will probably bump to 2.15 sometime soon.
Soso. If you remember there was a discussion about this in the past. At
some 0.4pre* version. Then there was bump from 2.12 to 2.13 or not to
bump. We choose not to bump.
Well can be but so far I see ( and I'm not really a gnome expert )
2.15/2.16 will have some
bigger changes as well gtk* which already has.
I don't understand something. If we got in the repos gnome 2.15 then why
we got bug hunting ? Bugs already hunted and fixed and will be hunted /
fixed for 2.16 release.
krix , yes they will but the most bug reports are from distros using
.15 like FCx|*ubuntu etc.
The other thing is because gnome is a collection of 'random programs'
there will be 'distro bugs only'
which we need find and kill off.
Afterall if we just bump for 2.16 and we got bugs then we got the same
result that we bump to 2.15 for now.
NO. Because gnome has some 150++ depends + the whole other app depending
on it + the
whole "gnome-extra" you don't have the time in some days to:
1) bump gnome
2) recompile all the other apps depending on it ( tons )
3) find the extra apps are broken and fix all
4) find and fix
a) gnome bugs
b) gome bugs which are FW only
c) both
brr. I don't agree to bumping gnome to unstable for now.
I do :) and mabye this sound crazy for you the KDE m8r agree with
bumping to gnome-current or
how is called but I think doing so we can make gnome more usable/ bug
free for 0.5
Many many many many many and many many many :) things need to be
recompiled / bumped. Not just gnome. All gnome apps, evoltuion and other
stuffs too.
yes and is good so. In this way you / we will find all broken and bugged
apps now :).
BTW lets say apps are broken you think you can find/ fix / test all in
some days ? and
the release 0.5 'stable' ehh...
Dunno. Need to talk about it.
Well you are the gnome m8r :) so at last is your decision on whatever
you do , but
think about we _already_ have .15 parts and you will be forced to bump
again .15 parts on other apps
updates and the big problem with that IHMO if we find now bugs with this
mixed gnome , we even cannot
report to upstream anymore :/
