I got a lot of my skepticism the same way. I worked in econometric modeling 
(Chase Econometrics) in the mid-80's and came away thinking that the whole 
exercise is a mathematical veneer for expressing your own personal prejudices. 
Is the answer 5 less than you want? Set the "addfactor" to 5. (They also had 
"mulfactors.")

Same on this evolution thing; these so-called scientists jump to the nutty 
conclusion that everything magically "evolved" when the fossil record is just 
as easily explained as unicorns who died in the flood. Let's think Occam's 
Razor folks!
