You know... my grandfather left Latvia because doing so was a lot easier than staying there and trying to avoid being either shot or sent to Siberia, because there really wasn't much he could actually do to get rid of Stalin and his armies an KGB agents. (And yes, the KGB *was* actively looking for my grandfather) Are you suggesting he should have stayed there and "dealt with it"? Saying it's their country to deal with overlooks the very real fact that often, the only realistic choices are exile and martyrdom.
