Tom, my friend,

When I first began to seriously study character development and sensory
awareness my teachers told me simply that I had to learn to go to all of
those places with discipline rather than drugs. I did one LSD experience
under supervision with a therapist and my teacher told me the next week that
I couldn't come back if I ever did it again because it was too easy.

I constantly work with people from Raves and other drug experiences and they
do not have the ability to concentrate to do serious complex art. That is
a problem that is severe when it comes to great music and art. The hippies
couldn't and the conservatives are too anal retentive to do it as well.
You just have to find more "in depth" activities to straighten the mind and
develop the psycho-physical instrument. I agree with McLuhan but not about
Raves and Hippies. They are to art what addition is to higher math.

Best to you,

Ray Evans Harrell
