We have a mix of Nokia boxes, amongst them are IP 440s, we were recommended by our supplier that we just upgrade to a min 256Mb RAM for NG (our supplier is a major Telco in the UK).
But I have Nokia 350s already running NG FP3, which are lower spec than 440, and CPU is very low, <10%, if not .1% when quiet. (BTW - CPU is now actually reporting correctly through SNMP on IPSO 3.7!). The box in question has several DMZs and runs 100Mb Full Duplex connectivity on all interfaces (although only 4), and file server backups run near wire speed... no slower than a 100Mb FD layer 2 link to the backup server. As for the 440s, we're only initiating the upgrade now... so can't give you first hand experience on that model. But it does really sound like Netscreen BS... is that why Check Point doesn't like Netscreen? False rumours? Cheers Adam -----Original Message----- From: Alan Choyna [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 15 January 2004 22:04 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [FW-1] Would NG FP3 with AI kill Nokia IP440 performance I'm in the process of upgrading our IP440 from IPSO 3.5FCS10 and checkpoint FW-1 4.1 SP6 to IPSO 3.7 and NG FP3 with AI, and have heard from a colleague that some vendors (Netscreen) have said that an IP440 cannot run NG with AI because the extra overhead would kill FW throughput performance. Has anyone got any info on this? Can an IP440 handle NG with AI fine? If there is extra overhead, how much performance degradation could we expect? Our IP440 currently seems to handle our traffic without issue, and l'm hoping that he was just fed BS in order to get a sale. Thanks in advance.
