What works best for me is to do an "upgrade_export" on my production server, do a fresh install of SPLAT on my test machine, and do an "upgrade_import" on the test machine. After that, connect to the test machine with SmartDashboard, and push your policy. You will need to add static routes back in.
If you have trouble establishing a connection, type "fw unloadlocal <enter>" at the test machine's console. You should be able to connect then. You may also need to relicense the test machine. The hardware does not need to be the same with this process, although I recommend defining the ip addresses for eth0, eth1, etc etc on the test machine the same as they are on the production machine. >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 07/16/04 07:49AM >>> I am trying to do a restore on Secureplatform NG AI R55 for D/R purposes. I have taken a backup of our production Mgmt Server and I am trying to restore it in our lab for this purpose. I did a basic install of R55 and then added the necessary components. Every time I try the restore, it fails with the following error message: Can not complete the restore process due to package compression errors. It does seem as though the restore is completed (all GUI Clients, Users Settings, Ver's, Files are on the Server), but I am not able to establish communication with it. The H/W I am restoring to is different than the production H/W that the backup was taken from. Could this be part of the problem? Also, is it possible to do a restore of the Rulebase using the export utility? Any help or Insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Regards, Joseph A.
