I think the cost of Checkpoint Connectra will probably eliminate that as an
option for me. With Connectra are the iNotes clients prompted for
authentication with the SSL VPN and if so what are they authenticating
against AD?
I will have to look into the IMAP protocol, I was under the impression
iNotes would only work if they had direct access to the server holding the
account. Well, there was another option using a proxy to redirect clients
to avoid direct inbound open ports to a server. This is the information we
received from IBM several months back.
Thanks,
John

you may like to use Check Point Connectra module to allow your external
user to access mail server thru web, in that case you just need to enable
IMAP protocol on your SMTP gateway server and that server should retrieve
mails from your internal server on behalf of web user.
by the way this is how i have configured my lotus Domino web access for
those users coming thru web or internet explorer.

We are setting up our email system Lotus Notes/Domino for web access and
will need to make this available from the internet. We currently have a
SMTP gateway server in the DMZ for handling communications with the outside
world and was hopping to have the web mail pass through this but we have to
have direct access to the internal mail server hosting the accounts.
The only way I know of setting this up is use one of our available public
IP addresses and use static NAT to forward the requests into the internal
server for port 80. Not being a security expert, is there any other more
secure way of setting this up with the firewall to avoid allowing direct
access inbound on port 80?
Thanks,
John
