hi,
well - first of all: the subject is "vpn product comparisions" - what
I can tell you overall is that the VPN functionality is exactly the
same for all products. but there are differences (not only the price):
* VPN-1 UTM
-> this solution includes the AV and url-filtering, you only have to
buy the signature-updates
* VPN-1 Power
-> this solution includes performance enhancement - means secureXL.
if you have a multi-CPU or multi-core hardware and need high
performance this is the right product for you
* VPN-1 UTM Power
this includes both - so you have, AV and performance enhancement.
but again: the "basic" fw1 and vpn-functionality is exactly the same.
I suggest to contact a checkpoint partner and discuss your needs with
him -> http://partners.us.checkpoint.com/partnerlocator/

OK - I was previously asking about the UTM-1 appliance products...
I'm now doing some research into the software solutions for the
VPN/UTM platform. The sticky part on the UTM-1 appliance is that
replacement in a hardware failure becomes expensive or slow. 4-hour
on-site is expensive. With a software solution, I can have my own
standby hardware much easier and much cheaper.
What I can't understand from the Checkpoint web site is -- what is
the difference between:
* VPN-1 UTM
* VPN-1 Power
* VPN-1 UTM Power
The only real difference that I can find is that each one gets more
expensive. Why isn't there some sort of a feature comparison matrix
available for these products? Checkpoint has about the worst
product information online that I've ever seen!
My further question -- I've got an existing license for the VPN
gateway software. My license is CPVP-VIG-100-NG (VPN-1 Internet
Gateway for 100 IP address). Obviously, this is a product that does
not really exist anymore. (I also apparently have licenses for
CPVP-VPS-1-NG, which I don't really understand what it is for, and
also CPVP-VSR-1000-NG, which is obviously a SecuRemote license that is free.)
My support is out-of-date for this license. My question is -- if I
renew my support on the CPVP-VIG-100-NG license, what current
product do I end up on? Do I end up with VPN-1 UTM, Power, or UTM+Power?
What's bizarre is that if I go to the Checkpoint support center, and
ask it to give me a price to get my support current, it tells me
that the 'retail value' of my products is $8840 in doing its
calculations. However, even the most expensive VPN-1 product, the
VPN-1 UTM Power, has a _list_ price of $7000 for the 100-IP
version. So where the heck are they getting that inflated number??
Thanks for any help for an obviously confused customer.
