I cannot agree more. It has been so confusing for me that I have
been holding off going to R70 for over a year now. I was told by CP
that R70 can be used with the R65 license but to go to R70.20 or .30
I will need to upgrade to the blade license. Has this changed and
only R71 and beyond requires the new license?

Yes it does require the blade licenses, I did the free migration
currently offered by Checkpoint to get to the blade licensing. I
think R70.x can use the R65 licensing for now but R71 requires the
blade licensing.
It's a very confusing time right now with the Checkpoint products for
both gateway and clients.

R71 is supposed to be the bugfix equivalent of R70.20. There was a
lot of
stuff added into R71, enough to make me a tad nervous especially
since we
don't need any of it. I'm thinking I'm going to do R70.30 from R70.1.
The
only issue we've had with R70.1 is that occasionally SmartView Monitor
says a gateway is disconnected when it never is.
Doesn't R71 require blade licenses? Have you done that yet?

I'm in the process of upgrading from R65 SPLAT to either R70.30 or R71
on
new hardware. It's a simple environment with the Management Server and
Security Gateway running on the same SPLAT open server and a single S2S
VPN with a Edge appliance. I have done the migration to R71 in a test
environment using the export tool without issue but limited
capabilities
to test it. Are others on the list finding the R71 stable and working
well?
We are also using the R60 HFA01 SecuRemote/SecureClient and it unclear
the
direction Checkpoint is going on this. From what I'm finding it appears
Endpoint Connect R73 is replacing the SecureClient but I see in the
forums
discussions about a new Discovery client that appears to be a
replacement
for SecureClient, as if it's separate from the Endpoint stuff. It's
also
interesting that they don't have a client packaging tool for R73 and
don't
plan on making one. Am I missing something, is EC R73 it.
