The IP330 is a Nokia Appliance.Check Point is the software. You have to get
a Check Point Licence (for the software) and buy a Nokia box (The IP330).
It is a very nice box. Good performance for medium sized bussiness.
We sell Nokia/Check Point and Netscreen: if you like Check Point (the easy
way of configuring rules, and everything they say is nice) and don't mind
paying the extra bucks... go for it; if you don't have too much money but
don't need all the functionalities of a Router (like the Nokia is: RIP, BGP,
dinamic routing, and so on), go for the Netscreen (25 or 50, depending on
the size of yor company).

I prefer Netscreen: is an ASIC firewall, the best performance ever (better
than the nokia IP330), and it comes with many thing that you'll have to buy
separetly from Check Point: QoS, User Acounting Manager,... and, the best of
all: it's like half the price you'll pay for a Nokia/Check Point Box.

Although, if you need a real router gateway with dynamic routing, FDDI
interfaces, executing shells, and so on... go for the Nokia.

Cheers.

Subject: [FW-1] Nokia IP330 & Checkpoint Firewall

Hello everyone,

I am currently looking around for some appliance based firewall to use
and came across the Nokia IP330 which I think may suit my needs.

I would like to check if anyone uses the IP330 and how is the
performance like compared to others like Netscreen & Sonicwall or
Watchguard?

Does the IP330 come with the Checkpoint firewall preinstalled (and I
need to get the license separately) or does it come in just the plain
chassis and I need to purchase BOTH the Checkpoint firewall software as
well as the license separately?

I was searching the web and while the Nokia and Checkpoint websites
indicates that the Checkpoint software is pre-installed,

(1) Checkpoint
http://www.nokia.com/networks/product_catalog/pc_product_highlights/1,55
67,,00.html?prod_id=NIC00011&path=mcat&mcat=34269&scat=38669&tech_id=&ra
nge_id=&query

(2) Nokia
http://www.checkpoint.com/products/choice/platforms/nokiaip330.html

Some sites like SecureHQ seems to indicate otherwise,

(3) SecureHQ
https://www.securehq.com/shqbuyersguide.wml&sessionid=20021027453212220&;
storeid=1&vendorid=21

Before I plunge my nose into the product, could someone who has got real
hand experience with the IP330 or familiar with Checkpoint help me with
my queries?

Many thanks for your time and have a nice day,
