Hello,
We have been suffering from a strange complaint on our FW-1 system for some
time now and I wonder if any of you out there have the same or similar
problem, or even if you have managed to fix the problem.
Our system is Firewall-1 v4.0 Build 4055 running on NT4-sp5. Prior to this
we were running various builds of 3.0b on NT4 with various service packs.
The hardware has always been a Digital 3200R server, Pentium II 266, 256MB
RAM.
We have three interfaces. The internet, our DMZ and our internal network. We
are using NAT to map between our public address space and the systems on the
DMZ and internal networks. We also have a VPN in place to two sites using
FWZ encryption.
Over a period of time the response of the system will get slower and slower
until we reach a point when it becomes unusable and we need to reboot the
firewall box. After the reboot performance is fine. We must reboot the
system, restarting the Firewall services does not solve the problem.
This period of time varies greatly. Sometimes it will be two weeks between
reboots, other times it may be that we need to reboot the system twice a
day. Five to seven days of uptime seems to be the average.
We have followed the information on the Checkpoint web-site regarding
tuning, but this does not seem to have solved this problem. Upgrading
through various releases of FW-1 and NT service packs also does not seem to
solve the problem. So far, various tech. support staff have been unable to
assist us.
Has anybody got any ideas?
