I actually experienced this when I installed the WebSense server and upgraded my FW-1
to the latest service packs. The server would eventually degrade to a point where
email would stop flowing (although the firewall would continue to function properly
for everything else). After a certain point, I would see Dr. Watson applications
running in Task Manager - killing these processes would eventually bring back server
performance, but the cycle would eventually restart.

I was told by my instructor that SP-4 is the only Service Pack for NT supported by
CheckPoint. I would go back to SP4 first.

Only until I completely removed WebSense and uninstalled the FW service packs did my
server regain a normal state. I am very hesistant at upgrading the firewall to 4.1 as
a result. A consultant told me that the only true way to regain system performance is
to rebuild the server - not what I want to hear. Luckily, our problems stopped after
taking the steps above.
