I would not exactly call it a placeholder. Let me explain. I am standing on the first tee with 2-wood in hand facing a 220-yard water carry into a stiff breeze. Now, this is a piece of cake for the golfing greats, like Eugene and Spiff, but for the average weekend hacker, it sets the knees trembling. After hitting my first two tee shots into the lake, and running out of golf balls, I hacked my way around the lake, finally holing out for 250 strokes. I admit I am struggling to find a word to adequately describe this score -- triple-bogey seems somehow inadequate. :) After dusting myself off, I made what I thought was a nice birdie at the second, only to be told that Eugene had done better (that guy is a magician, I have no idea what he has pulled out of his hat on that hole). I then promptly bogeyed the last. Oh well, I enjoyed the round, and at least I got on the board before any beginners did. .^. Hmm, I feel sorry for Eugene, who seems to be out-numbered. I don't think I can offer much support for him, and most of the other fwp-ers are probably out doing sensible things like getting drunk or singing Christmas carols. In addition to ircnet and fwp, what about Perl monks and London.pm? In fact, who are the major Perl tribes? Merry Christmas to all the golfers, _ ( _)anta
