I have to disagree; while I have read the RE/Owl (I hear there is 
another in the works?) I feel that

/[fF][oO][oO]/ lacks clarity over /foo/i

Not to get too far OT, but my original post truly concerned 
counting, w/o mention of speed; but I simply wanted it *shorter* 
because at that time I wanted to post an entry into Perl Golf for 
hole even.pl -- but since have disqualified myself as I feel I had 
too much help...

(In case anyone is wondering - I did end up with my own solution at 
91 strokes... It was a bastardized version of the previous thread I 
am guilty of starting here...)
