I suspect that this is going on. When I got my replacement yo-yo after
the first one burned out, it looked like it had a heavier-duty wire. It was
also copper colored, instead of just Apple graphite.
The symptoms my first one displayed looked just like the examples
depicted on that link you forwarded.
So far, the new one works fine (knock, knock)...
