Just went through this same thing with a WallStreet (PowerBook G3
series). Had it into the repair store several times (three), as they
replaced several components (each of which seemed to do the trick, until
I'd discharge the battery and it would not recharge) before finally
telling me it was the Power Management Unit.
Haven't picked it up yet, so I can't say for sure that it's fixed, but
they say it is.
If you take it in for repairs, I recommend you ask them to hold on to
the original parts they replace for several days -- to let you check it
out fully -- before they return 'em to Apple. That way, you won't get
nailed for paying for parts/services that didn't do the trick.
