Gary, Laurent's totally on the mark here. I had the LG drive, and (luckily?) mine went south just before my warranty ran out. I located (off Apple's site) an Apple Service Provider, who replaced the drive (with another LG, alas). I figure when this one goes bad, I'll get the MCE CDRW/DVD Expansion Bay drive. In your case, I'm guessing you *are* out of warranty, so you might check MCE's site for the drive. At least, you'll get the CDRW out of the replacement. See the MCE site/page: http://www.mcetech.com/xpebcdrw.html I haven't heard of anyone on the list (or locally) who's had problems with the Matshita DVD/CDROM drives, so if a person got a Matshita replacement, that might solve the problem longer term.
