Well, in the past, the logo was a small rainbow Apple logo. As such, it was
less obvious when the book was open, that the logo was upside down. BTW, the
logo is not upside down when it's closed and you are looking at it. I think
the issue of upsidedownness became an issue when Apple enlarged and
illuminated the logo. Suddenly, it became a Big Deal. They got it right with
the G4. :-) (And yes, I do wish that the logo were right-side up when open.)
