Within the past week (or let's say up to two if I ignored it at first), I've started getting some problems with my Pismo (384MB RAM, orig. 10 GB HD, MacOS 9.2.2):
1) When trying to drag and drop (expand) folders/files from the Stuffit Deluxe (6.0.1) window to my drive, some (now most) appear to complete, but when I get the info, the file (or some, if I've dragged a folder) is incomplete - shows for example 127MB but the bytes shows 43,243 bytes (different amounts, but about always smaller. HOWEVER, if I drag the file to my RAM disk (about 32 MB, which I originally set up to speed up my browser cache), the file expands properly. If I then drag the file from the RAM Disk to the Pismo's HD window (or subwindow), the file copies okay and I have a working, expanded copy. So why is this happening? Only thing recently with Stuffit programs that I did was to DL and switch to Expander 7.0.1 (and the DropStuff version with it appears to work fine the other way). I can't afford the cost of an upgrade on the Stuffit Deluxe yet (out of work and job-hunting), so let's check other options. Thanks on that! --- 2) Just today, all of a sudden when I click on an IAD's (those Internet locations/URLs that you get when you drag an address like http://www.apple.com to the desktop), I get this message: "The Internet location "www.apple.com" cannot be opened because there is no application selected for opening this kind of location. Use the Internet control panel to select a helper application for opening this kind of location." Also, Command-clicking on an URL within Emailer no longer launches iCab (browser) as it used to do for the past few years. I looked in Internet CP and it lists iCab to open http and https files - as before. I went in and changed the preferences in Internet CP, re-installed a fresh download of iCab, but I'm still NOT getting results when I double-click on the INet location(IAD) in the Finder (or when I Command-click within other applications - Emailer, BBEdit Lite, no go!). ---- Anyone else run into either of these problems and can help? All help will be appreciated. TIA, Jim Rohde Life is too short to use anything but a Mac. -- Roger Ebert -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
