You indicate that you want this for additional sockets. Are you aware that you can add additional USB ports (sockets) with a simple USB hub? You can get a simple 2 or 4 port unit that looks like a small dongle, or go up to a self powered 7 port hub (self powered provides power to devices like drives and scanners connected to the hub). I have a 7 port self powered unit, currently connected to my kids iMac. However when it was connected to my iBook I had no trouble with putting it to sleep. As a matter of fact, when I put it to sleep, the activity lights on the hub (a red/green light on each port) would go dark.
