What kind of Powerbook do you have? also, have you check to see if 
this is a crossover cable or what port are you plugging into? Is it 
the Uplink port?

I haven't had a problem with my ABS plugged into any port because it 
has (like all Macs made after 1999) an auto-sensing port which not 
only determines the network speed but if it should be an uplink or 
straight-through port. Good luck finding that on a PC.
