But Disk First Aid (in the classic OS) is only one part of what disk utility provides in OS X. Aside from running first aid from Disk Utility, you can also partition and/or format drives, get info about drives, set up a raid... It's more like a combo of Disk First Aid, Drive Setup, and a little bit of Apple System Profiler, all from OS 9. However, I don't know how much first aid in OS X will do for your machine's health. I have had success with Tech Tool for fixing some minor problems recently, but that's it. I had to force restart my pismo the other day (lockup), and I was thinking about how in OS 9 this would always bring up an automatic run of disk first aid.
