The switch was simple, but I had to drill another hole because the Pismo faceplate had different mounts than the HP the drive came from. Anyway, the drive was $52 on eBay - just look in the laptop components section and be patient. This one had a picture of the actual drive, so I knew it was a Matsushita mechanism. Apple System Profiler recognizes the drive, but disc burning and iTunes aren't supported. Toast, however, will work with the drive so now I have a working combo drive in the wife's Pismo. BTW, I also tested the drive in my Lombard and I could burn with Toast there, too. My next step is to work on the disc burner support file so I can do things from Finder and iTunes.
