My wife is buying a new Powerbook to go with her new teaching job. So the question is, which one? My suggestion is for the 12" G4. My reasoning is that it represents the most recent technology, where the 15" TiBook is a bit older design and the iBook even older with a G3 processor. It also is very small and light--a plus.
The main issues w/the 12" seem to be:
1. It *is* small. Some folks have complained aboubt it seeming cramped. 2. You can't boot directly into OS 9. This may/may not be important. 3. It lacks a level 3 cache. 4. It has a mediocre graphics card.
It also lacks a pcmcia slot. This may or may not be an issue, but a professor here was mildly peeved that she had to go buy another peripheral to drag around, as they use compact flash cards to transfer files about as well as photos from their camera.
As a desktop replacement the 15" is better than the 12". The 12" is lighter and more portable, and has better airport range.
The 15", while it is older design, is also more debugged design as well.
Most of the people opting for powerbooks here have gone for the 15" powerbook. The people buying the 12" seem to have been deciding between the iBook and it.
