The biggest problem you will face is that there won't be a Mac version made in this fashion. EasyX uses WMP APIs like an app would use Quicktime to convert movies without needing Quicktime Pro. Those APIs aren't available for use on the Mac version of WMP, so it is a no-go from the start. One place to look might be the open-source projects though, since it is likely that ASF support exists somewhere.

ASF is simply a file format like AVI is... AVI can't stream properly, and ASF is horrible for non-streaming purposes. The codec involved is likely to be WMV9 or something of the sort, which is like MPEG4, but not entirely compliant IIRC. The reason why I personally try to avoid these types of equipment is that if they want to follow 'standards' set by one company because they are lazy or ignore parts of the market, they shouldn't get my money. Give the money to a company that understands the other 10-15% of the market (Linux and Mac users). Things don't get better if we just let the equipment go the path it is heading. (End my rant)

Anyways, the only hope for a Mac way to convert those movies is to hope the open-source guys have an app that can convert ASF files, and get someone to write you up a graphical interface to that tool. Heck, I would be willing to do so if the app could be found, since it would be something that people could get use out of.

I don't think Microsoft completely ditched it, simply because nothing short
of Windows Media Player 9 could play my ASF files, and nearly all tapeless
camcorders these days output the video to the ASF format. Perhaps there was
an earlier version of ASF that was dumped and now Microsoft "created" a new
version? Anyway, I found a simple video converter (for windoze :( that can
convert any movie Windows Media Player 9 can read into mpeg1, mpeg2, dvd,
vcd, svcd, or avi with a choice of codecs. (the converter is called EasyX
Video Converter, such an original name...) Quicktime on my iBook can read
the converted files and imports nicely into iMovie. For now, this will have
to do (at least until a mac version is made...
