The crack is right near the display release. On another note, I found
a 20gb hard drive at ecost:

I googled the mfg. part number and it turns out it's a Toshiba:

Am I correct in assuming this will be compatible with the pismo?

The first place to start was with firmly seated parts. After that, I would suspect the power/sound board. They are rather precious on ebay these days. Where is the crack, it might show where the point of impact was when it was dropped.
