I'm not sure it is the FAN. I have same problem. I think it is Hard Drive cycling rather than sleeping.
A while ago I asked the following but got no replies: "About a year ago I came across a patch to solve the problem: when i sleep my Wallstreet with OS 10.1.5, hard drive keeps spinning every few seconds. (Works fine when plugged in to AC adapter.) Now I can't find the patch. Have tried google search, as well as others on MAc publication web sites. Can anyone help?"
