OS 9 may be dead to you but there are still millions with older equipment not yet able to move to OSX.
I take your point and admit that OS 9 has/had many good points yet to be beaten in OS X, BUT I find it somewhat hard to believe that Micro$oft has done something like this with restricting Save As filenames to 31 characters in OS X for the sake of OS 9 users...
Nah, smells more like (yet another) bug to me.
