Have trashed Netscape 7.9 and disk first aid finds no problem. Have now trashed preferences for Mac OS, Finder, and Systems. Hope to test machine tomorrow. Thanks again for your input.

Can you go back to 4.79 just to see if the problem still occurs? Did you try running a disk utility for your hard drive?
