Gee, lets throw in word processing, photo manipulations and refrigeration of tasty beverages into the mix. We'll call it iMailWordCalAddPhotoFridge. It'll come on 76 CD's, take three hours to install, two electrical outlets and a water connection, and if you spill a coke in the fridge, you lose all your e-mail.
What is this urge to have gigantic all-in-one things?
I should be able to tell my system what is my address store, what is my calendar program, and what is my e-mail program, and use small, fast programs that are designed to do one thing and one thing well.
Depend on common data-types for inter-program communication. If I want integration, then I can do it. If not, I don't have to.
Why straightjacket everyone into a single solution?
