Yes, they do. For many people 1024x768 on that 12" screen is just too small to read comfortably. The noticeable change in going up to a 14" screen, even at the same resolution, makes a huge difference.

We have folks at work who have their systems set to 800x600 on 17" LCD's.

In one case I suspect it's because one of them is just too damn stubborn to wear the glasses he quite obviously needs (he has his screen fonts set huge, to the point where I worry about him driving, much less operating a computer!), but still many people do have problems with those tiny pixels.
