I'm using VueScan (as my scanner software) and an older USB Canon scanner I picked up off eBay for about $14.00 bucks. It does good basic scans ... if you're interested in something more far-reaching & high-quality, I don't know what to recommend. I used to like Microtek as well (OS 9 days), but am leery of them now from other individual's comments.
