What happens if one uses an AirPort Xtreme card in a PowerBook

In that case the Extreme card reverts to 802.11b mode, and is in all respects just like an older airport card. It should get better range at b than at g, always. In fact I believe that the card (and base station) will automatically switch to the lower B speed when you get out of range of G. I'm not positive on this, but it is the way Apple would design it.

Unfortunately, the vagaries of wireless setups are such that experimenting is about the only way of determining your own optimal setup. With the 12" PB the internal Extreme card or a USB dongle are your only wireless options.
