I have done that but no go. I see the OSX as an option and I select the arrow pointing to the right but nothing.

OF works fine, I can do a printenv at the prompt and the boot-device
shows the correct default for new world machines as being, hd:,\\:txbi

It just won't boot. But in Target mode the disk mounts on my eMacs
desktop and in fact I can boot up my eMac using the iBook's HD while
the iBook is in Target mode.

Can anyone explain this? Since the CDROM drive is dead I can't use C to
startup from a CD, but I have installed Panther, while the ibook was in
Target mode, using my eMac and like I said it will boot my eMac right
up but it will not boot itself.

I get a flashing question mark inside a folder

Restart And hold the option key. This should bring up a list of available
drives. Select the HD and let it continue. Its looking for the last drive &
OS it started from last time it made a complete start.

My internal CD ROM is dead on my ibook.

I have installed Panther using my emac's Panther CDs over firewire
(eMac and iBook connected via firewire) while the ibook is in target

It doesn't work.

Do I need retail Panther CDs or iBook CDs.

Please help.

Can you provide us with more details? What happens when "It doesn't work"? What kind of iBook is this? Can you boot in OpenFirmware?
